Last Saturday evening, I had the privilege of attending a captivating cacao ceremony at Devasom during their enchanting Sol Festival. This month-long festival, featuring special events on the weekends of May, promises an extraordinary celebration of wellness and inner exploration. Having attended two previous cacao ceremonies, I was excited to see how this one would unfold; surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of the beach.
Entering the Circle: Embracing the Sacred Ritual
As we entered the ceremony space, we were greeted by a welcoming and warm lady who invited us to refresh ourselves by cleansing our hands and face with rose water. Gathering around a bonfire, we sat down and prepared ourselves for the ceremony, which commenced just before sunset on the beautiful beach. The serenity of the surroundings captured my attention, but I couldn’t help but be mesmerized by the breathtaking scenery and decoration.
Connecting with Heart and Breath: A Moment of Stillness
Before delving into our meditation and indulging in the hot cacao, we stood together, swaying gently to the rhythmic beats, allowing our hearts and breaths to sync. The shaman’s melodic voice, singing in Thai, filled the air and washed over us like a calming river, soothing our souls. In a symbolic gesture, the shaman handed each of us a cacao, served in a cacao bean, encouraging us to cradle it in our hands while closing our eyes. Slowly and deliberately, we began sipping the rich beverage, allowing its warmth to infuse us from within. Once we finished our drink, we lay down on soft pillows, surrendering to the soothing embrace of the cacao and earth.
Connecting with Mother Nature: Surrendering to Grounding Energy
To deepen our connection with Mother Nature, we were invited to touch the sand with our hands and play with it. The cool feeling of the sand running through my fingertips allows me to ground myself in the present moment.
Releasing and Receiving: Exhaling Burdens, Embracing Unity
Through a series of breathing exercises, we released any burdens that held us back, exhaling and letting go of what no longer served us. As we rose to our feet, forming a circle, hands intertwined, we began to exchange energy, giving and receiving from one another. As the ceremony neared its end, each participant shared a word that encapsulated their experience, speaking it aloud. Together, we repeated each word, fostering a collective energy of gratitude and connection.

In the culmination of this sacred gathering, I felt a profound sense of love, empowerment, strength, groundedness, and peace. The ceremony concluded with heartfelt embraces, as we embraced the shared experience and the bond we had formed.
