The buzz of Phuket Town’s lively streets blends seamlessly with the vibrant dining scene, and at the heart of it all is Bon Pan Asian Tapas the newest addition to the town’s culinary landscape. Under the L’Arome Group, Bon Tapas aims to offer fusion Asian delights at a reasonable price. The new location embraces the vibrant izakaya-style dining experience, led by the talented Chef Charlie. Located in a prime spot on Phangnga Road, I was thrilled to explore this new izakaya-style eatery along with fellow food blogger Holly.
Ambiance and Concept
From the moment you step inside, the izakaya vibe immediately pulls you in. The minimalist yet welcoming design, with its clean lines, light wooden furnishings, and soft grey flooring, creates a warm and modern atmosphere. The open kitchen and bar, framed by high wooden stools, fosters a relaxed and communal setting, perfect for those who love the casual drinking and dining culture of izakayas. Eye-catching food posters line the walls, celebrating the restaurant’s diverse Asian fusion dishes, while soft but vibrant lighting keeps the mood upbeat. Large windows offer a peek into the lively streets of Phuket Old Town, seamlessly blending the indoor experience with the neighborhood’s energetic vibe.
The laid-back atmosphere invites you to unwind, especially if you’re craving comfort food like yakitori, dumplings, ramen, and noodles. The drink menu is just as enticing, offering signature cocktails infused with Asian flavors, alongside classic beers and inventive mocktails. Whether you’re in the mood for a casual bite or a relaxed night out, Bon Pan Asian Tapas has you covered.
The Food
Led by Chef Charlie, Bon Pan Asian offers a fusion of Asian delights with an izakaya twist. The menu is designed to entice comfort food lovers, serving everything from dumplings and noodles to yakitori skewers and sushi. It’s the kind of place where the flavors transport you, balancing between tradition and innovation in every bite.
We kicked off our tasting with Xia Long Bao (THB 180), pork-filled dumplings that arrived piping hot. While I wished for a bit more soup inside the chewy casing, the flavors were on point—just make sure to eat them quickly before the soup disappears (we learned the hard way after pausing for photos!).
The Mixed Sushi Platter (THB 790) showcased a selection of beautifully prepared sushi. The scallops were my absolute favorite, soft and sweet, practically melting in my mouth. The tuna and salmon were fresh and tender, but the hamachi stole the show with its buttery richness.
Next, the Mixed Sushi Riceless Roll (THB 250) arrived in an elegant treasure box. Not only was the presentation stunning, but the seaweed casing provided a delightful texture to the carb-free roll—perfect for those on a diet but still craving something indulgent.
The Vegetable Gyoza (THB 150), while crispy and perfectly fried, left me wanting more filling inside. It was good, but I’ll be returning to try the meat version next time. Speaking of indulgence, the Caramelized Pork Belly (THB 290) was a guilty pleasure—crispy, sweet, and smoky with a delightful fattiness. It’s not for the faint-hearted, but for me, it was heaven.
The Teriyaki Chicken (THB 80) was a simple, tender delight, rich with a smoky undertone, and the Guacamole with Crispy Tortilla (THB 190) was a fun addition to the mix—light and flavorful.
One dish that quickly became a personal favorite was the Lobster Black Spaghetti (THB 340). The tom yam bisque paired with sweet, succulent lobster was a perfect fusion of flavors, and I highly recommend giving it a try.
Dessert was no less impressive. We had the Pandan Crème Brulee (THB 250), a unique twist on the classic French dessert infused with aromatic pandan. Chef Charlie’s signature dessert is a must for crème brulee lovers—it was a fantastic fusion of East meets West. The Lava Cake with Matcha Heart was equally decadent, with the bitterness of matcha beautifully balancing the rich, molten chocolate.
The Drinks
If you’re in the mood for cocktails, don’t miss the Yuzu Highball. A refreshing mix of tangy yuzu, Bourbon and soda, it pairs perfectly with the izakaya-style bites. And of course, you can’t go wrong with their selection of beers.
The Service
Special shoutout to Steeve, the restaurant manager, whose warm hospitality made us feel right at home. Fun fact: He’s not only an amazing host but also a talented dancer!
While I didn’t sample the lamb skewers, Holly raved about them, so if you’re a fan of lamb, they’re a must-try.
Final Thoughts
Bon Pan Asian Tapas in Phuket Old Town is a fantastic spot to relax, sip on cocktails, and enjoy great Asian-inspired dishes with friends. If you’re like me and enjoy the laid-back izakaya atmosphere—good food, great drinks, and even better conversations—this is the place for you. I’ll definitely be back for more, especially to try the pork belly tacos, chorizo & scallops yakitori, and their ramen!
Thanks again to Chef Charlie and the Bon Pan Asian team for a scrumptious experience. Until next time, Bon Tapas—I’m already counting the days until my return.
